A Foundation located in Mozambique, has projects related to sustainable architecture and
Early Childhood education.
The school of Impire is part of the project that has built units in the region to demonstrate new possibilities and encourage the constructions with use of local raw materials.
The pre-school was beautifully made, but there were no learning support material apart from a  black board to entertain children aged between 3 and 5 years.
The main objective of the workshop was to encourage the educators to take ownership of their surroundings, building toys and making it a realistic teaching tool appropriate to the context.

So with every possible material gathered from their surroundings, we invited educators to come into a time tunnel where, recalling their childhood, they would think of toys with those materials we found.
The first production was very free, totally created by educators who found them selves able and skilled, producing dolls, cars and musical instruments.

This first production became a realistic starting point.
 
From that we could start proposing new directions, more structured andbased on appropriate pedagogical needs.
Through these activities, the educators have rediscovered their surroundings realizing that the materials can be transformed in many ways.

We had they saying, "I never knew bamboo could be turned in to a car." Or "I never knew a tire rubber could be transformed in a doll".
As they gained familiarity with the material, they felt more confident to produce new things.
During the six days of activities we reinforced the importance of playing, the possibilities as educators and the opportunities they had there in their hands.
In the end the scarcity we saw at the beginning has become possibility.
